Die Kompression beschreibt, wie sich das Volumen eines Materials unter allseitigem Druck verkleinert. Quantitativ wird dies beschrieben durch den Kompressionsmodul oder dessen Kehrwert der Kompressinilität.
Gesteine sind mehr oder weniger kompressibel. Ihre Kompressibilität hängt im Wesentlichen von der Porosität und der Porenfüllung ab.
